The acquisition of the engineering company Herbold Meckesheim has been formally completed. Herbold Meckesheim will be integrated into Coperion’s recycling product lines within its new Recycling Business Unit, which plans to offer comprehensive solutions for plastics recycling processes.
Coperion will combine its strengths as an international industrial and technology leader with Herbold Meckesheim, a specialist in mechanical recycling of plastics and plastic waste, to jointly forge a unified business approach. Herbold Meckesheim will continue operating at its current location and retain its name. Together, the two companies will leverage their combined expertise in recycling, collaborating to develop modular systems and plant solutions that cater to a wide range of industries within the circular economy—and will extend their reach across significant global markets through their integrated sales and service network.
The Recycling Business Unit aims to deliver comprehensive, cutting-edge solutions by leveraging the complementary technologies of both Coperion and Herbold Meckesheim. From mechanical processing—such as shredding, washing, separating, drying, and agglomerating plastics—to bulk material handling, feeding, and extrusion, as well as compounding and pelletizing, this Business Unit covers the entire process chain.
With their extensive global service network supporting installations and startups, highly competent and rapid on-site service is also available. Additionally, cutting-edge test centers are provided for product development as well as customer trials, enabling customers to conduct thorough testing of each process step in the dedicated labs—giving interested parties the opportunity to make informed decisions before committing to significant investments.
The Recycling Business Unit plans to offer complete plants and systems for recycling PET, polyolefins, film, or rigid plastic. From mechanical processing to solvent-based and chemical recycling, to comprehensive solutions for highly automated and modular recycling lines—providing end-to-end systems helps us deliver additional value to our customers. Engineering and service are also available throughout the equipment’s entire operational life.
“Herbold Meckesheim’s strong reputation within the recycling industry stems from its high-quality machines and solutions, which align perfectly with Coperion’s growth strategy. Together, we’ll establish robust production and engineering facilities in Europe, Asia, and North America,” emphasized Markus Parzer, President of Coperion’s Polymer Division.
Werner Herbold, Managing Director of Herbold Meckesheim, added, “We can take pride in being included among this esteemed engineering company. The combination of both companies’ key technologies for the rapidly growing recycling industry opens up outstanding prospects for our future.”
