Thermoplastic Elastomers

Thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) are characterized by their elastic performance and thermoplastic processing properties. Based on their chemical-morphological structure, they are classified into TPE-S, TPE-O, TPE-E, TPE-A, and TPE-V. Various methods are used for compounding thermoplastic elastomers, such as pelletizing or direct extrusion into films or sheets.

  • Thermoplastic elastomers containing a cross-linked rubber component are designated as TPE-V. The cross-linking and dispersion of the EPDM, along with the addition of larger amounts of softener, place significant demands on the compounding technology.

  • Decorative film, used for vehicle interiors, for example, can be produced using Coperion extrusion lines in a single-step process. The intermediate pelletizing stage—typical for plastics and other products—is eliminated in this in-line compounding system. This significantly lowers both the investment and operational costs, as well as reducing the energy demands of the production process.
